J.W. Electric Service is an authorized dealer of GUARDIAN® power generators by Generac Power Systems, the top-selling brand on the market.  J.W. Electric installers are skilled electricians trained to make electrical wiring alterations necessary for selected loads to be backed up by the new generator. 

Standby generators 7-46KW with Automatic Transfer Switch are installed for residential and commercial clients.  Likewise, some residential customers choose an economical portable generator which uses a manual transfer switch.

J.W. Electric also installs already-owned generators purchased at home improvement stores.

Selecting the right system for your home

When choosing a power generator, first decide what should be protected: specific circuits or the entire house.  More protection obviously requires more power. Typical circuit configurations include:

• 8 circuits: family room, master bedroom, kitchen (often requires multiple circuits), bathroom, sump pump, furnace, small central air.
• 10 circuits: 8 circuits selection extended with a stronger 3-ton central air and a water heater or well pump.
• 12 circuits: 10 circuits selection extended with 4-ton central air, bedrooms and a garage.
• 16 circuits: 12 circuits selection extended with 5-ton central air and home office.
• Whole house: 16 circuits selection extended by media room, basement, playroom area, outdoor lighting.

Determine the circuits to be protected during an outage and match them to the generator that has a transfer switch that offers a sufficient number of circuits:

• 8 circuits - 7kW generator
• 10 circuits - 10kW generator
• 12 circuits - 13kW generator
• 16 circuits - 16kW generator
• Whole house - protection can be provided by an air-cooled or liquid-cooled GUARDIAN® unit or a low-noise QuietSource generator.  The selection should be based on the power demand measurement performed by licensed electrician.  Contact J.W. Electric to schedule an appointment.
